The Metropolitan Library System has teamed up with Oklahoma Young Writers to offer our weekly writing workshop at no charge to OKYW. The library will also begin promoting the workshop in the library magazine, Info.
After a short break for the holidays, OKYW will resume their weekly workshop, now called Write On! on January 9. The workshop, for writers ages 13-21, is facilitated by nationally touring poets, Rob Sturma and Lauren Zuniga. Students explore the path between imagination and memory, build a tool box of literary devices and learn new techniques for constructive peer critique. Every Sunday 3-5 pm at the Downtown Public Library (Jim Thorpe Room)
Students are also invited to participate in the monthly poetry slam, a competition designed to strengthen performance and presentation skills. This April, OKYW will host a final slam at the DT library auditorium to select its team for the 2011 Brave New Voices Youth Poetry Slam Festival. Stay tuned for more info!
